This is an advertisement for Microsoft Windows Vista. It has a creative side to it because it relates back to the beginning of time when man had no idea that the Earth was actually round, let alone minuscule in the universe. This has a play on the advertisement in that humans have been advancing since the beginning of time, and Windows Vista is even furthering our expansion. However, the way that Microsoft goes about displaying the information in the ad is inadequate.
With the huge sail ship, of what seems to be the time of Christopher Columbus, is sailing the ocean contributing to the point of human expansion, but they failed to draw in the audience because that’s all the ad consists of. They should have at least made a comparison between now and then. The heading is short and snappy; however, it is very vague and somewhat unclear in its intentions. The audience could easily get lost in the information, and find the ad confusing. Also there is nothing explaining Windows Vista, nothing to state the benefits, thus making the audience uninterested. With 70 percent of people only looking at the images of articles, I doubt that the audience will invest in some additional research.
Microsoft missed the signature as well. The only information regarding the product is Windows Vista. They infer that the audience will either click on the image or turn the page in order to get the facts. They don’t include a U.R.L. or anything for the audience to continue their research. Microsoft also forgot to include their trademark logo or anything regarding the company in general. They are assuming that the audience will have enough knowledge to know that Windows is part of Microsoft. I personally would know that information; however, there are probably people that do not.
